webmistress: StarFlower

A successful children’s book illustrator, Sally J. Smith discovered new inspiration when she stepped out of her Adirondack studio into the surrounding forested countryside. Since 2005, Smith has constructed tiny, sculptural structures in the bowls and roots of towering trees, along rock-strewn stream beds, and hidden among spring flowers and autumn leaves. Subtle, serendipitous cues lead her to an appropriate site, then she fashions an elaborate dwelling out of whimsy, patience, abundant imagination, and whatever natural materials she finds in the area. Reflecting both the seasonal and ethereal magic of planet Earth, Smith’s faerie houses offer a delightful resting place for a moment in time.
